The South Platte River

The South Platte River is the main watershed for northwestern Colorado. This guide provides links to detailed trip reports for the South Platte River and it's tributaries.

C-470 to Union Avenue, Denver Colorado

6.5 Miles     class II

This is the first section of the South Platte after it leaves Chatfield Reservoir on it's way to Denver. This section is fairly scenic, and has 8 man made drops before reaching the Union Chutes whitewater playpark.

Union Avenue to Florida Avenue, Denver Colorado

5.1 miles     class II+

This section includes the Union Chutes whitewater playpark. It is more technical than the C-470 run, and includes 13 man made drops, two of which rate class II+

Brighton to Ft Lupton, Colorado

9.5 miles     class I

Brighton to Ft Lupton is a classic beginner run just 30 minutes from Denver. There are two small drops, one of which is pictured here, the rest of the section is fairly flat with moderate flow. It offers a great abundance of wildlife, though the scenery is only moderate.
