Rowing Guide

Alden 18 on Gross Reservoir
Rowing sculls, like any other craft, come in a variety of shapes
and sizes. Many of us are familiar with the competition sculls, long sleek craft
that glide across glass flat water. Less familiar are recreation sculls designed
for beginners or rougher conditions.
Here at Canoe Colorado, our emphasis is on versatility.
Recreation and open water sculls have the seaworthiness needed for exercise,
exploration and tripping. Recreation sculls such as the Alden 18 pictured above
can be used on high mountain lakes, where wind and waves are a constant threat.
It can also carry several weeks worth of gear for those people who want to
explore Lake Powell, Yellowstone, or other large bodies of water.
We have added rowing to our local trips, and the weekend
paddling group often has sculls joining us on our morning paddles around local
Front Range reservoirs.
